Promotion of Expanded Plantation of Organic Produce
- Taoyuan City is the largest origin of organic vegetables in Northern Taiwan, which actively promotes safe agriculture and organic cultivation. The production area of organic agriculture has increased year by year, reaching 483 hectares in December 2023.
- In terms of promoting organic cultivation of tea plantations, organic fertilizers are used to supply nutrients needed for the growth of tea, and agricultural wastes are effectively utilized. In addition, operators adopting organic tea farm cultivation may claim for “Organic Tea Leaves” mark. In December 2023, the planting area of organic tea reached 10 hectares.
Fulfilling Monitoring from Source to Ensure Safe Supply of Domestic “Three Marks and One Qualification” Ingredients
To ensure that the campus food ingredients suppliers and group catering operators in Taoyuan City can obtain the safe “Three Marks and One Qualification” ingredients, the City actively complies with policies under the Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan and guides farmers to introduce various verification and traceability systems, In addition strengthening the source management and corresponding random inspections on school’s fresh produce, husbandry and fish products to keep close tab from the origin, thereby ensuring the safety and security of nutritious lunches for students in elementary and junior high schools.
Nutritional Safety Food Program
With a view to promote the domestic production and sales of organic produce and to allow school kids savor local ingredients with peace of mind, the weekly lunches served in the City’s elementary and junior high schools will include 3 meals with locally grown organic vegetables, 1 meal with local TAP vegetables, while all meals are made from non-GMO ingredients. In addition, a joint inspection team is appointed to cooperate with regular and irregular sampling and full-process inspection and control with the purpose to ensure the safety and quality of lunches. In 2023, NT$ 175 million was contributed, benefitting more than 210,000 students.
Agri-Food and Food Safety Education Promotions
- Inclusion of locally produced and sold TAP soybeans into municipal elementary and high schoollunches as well as school purchases subsidies to increase schools’ willingness of adoption and to promote domestic sales of domestically produced and sold TAP soybeans, thereby maintaining the sustainable operation of the City's grain and soybean industry and activating the fallow farmland and increasing the scale of grain cultivation and the grain self-sufficiency rate.
- Taoyuan City has been committed to promoting leisure agriculture in recent years. Currently, it has approved the establishments of 10 leisure agriculture areas. Leisure farms in the leisure area have wide outdoor fields and a multitude of agricultural experience activities. The agricultural experiences are combined with the curriculum to encourage teachers and students to immerse themselves in Mother Nature and to promote the concept of agri-food education and environment education, In addition revitalizing the development of rural leisure industry. Through the above methods, local farmers and people may understand the importance of biodiversity, and develop safe agriculture in a way that respects the environment and is friendly to the ecology.
