Taoyuan embraces the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to manifest the sustainable value of its city governance.
Located in the northwestern part of Taiwan, Taoyuan City is one of the “Big Six Cities (direct-administered municipality)” and is often referred to as the gateway to Taiwan. It is a pivotal hub connecting Taiwan to the world. In recent years, Taoyuan has experienced rapid development, with its industrial output reaching nearly NTD 3 trillion, ranking first nationwide. Taoyuan also leads Taiwan in terms of inbound migration and birth rates. In a global trend that emphasizes sustainable development, the challenge lies in how Taoyuan manages rapid population growth and economic progression while balancing the environment, society, and economy. By adopting the United Nations’ SDGs as a benchmark, the city strengthens and reviews its policy plans in alignment with the SDGs, thereby reflecting the sustainable values of its governance.
Implementing Sustainable Development Goals, Demonstrating Urban Resilience
With the publication of the Voluntary Local Review (VLR) for Taoyuan City, we have outlined local governance indicators and future visions. These serve as basic guidelines and principles for governance and planning. Through regular reviews and ongoing adjustments, we are closely integrating the philosophy of sustainable development, driving the city’s transition in urban construction and progress toward a smart city, and creating a livable city for its residents.
Taoyuan has experienced rapid development with numerous industrial clusters. As an industrially advanced city, it has been persistently moving toward a low-carbon green city. In the future, we will build a more comprehensive and pragmatic carbon reduction policy through industrial transformation, green transportation, and energy conservation in the residential and commercial sectors. Facing the threat of extreme climate conditions, we aim to demonstrate the resilience of a sustainable city.
