Building New Architecture for Hakka Culture
Taoyuan has a Hakka population of 900,000. To promote and gain fame for Hakka Culture, in addition to Taoyuan City Hakka Culture Hall, Chung Chao-Cheng Literary Park, and Lunping Culture Park, Taoyuan City Government continues to build new Hakka Culture buildings and has completed constructions of the four new Hakka buildings including Taiwan Hakka Tea Museum, 1895 War Memorial Park, Conch Plaza, North Taoyuan Hakka Cultural Hall. The new building space not only combines local communities and schools, but also is he base for various Hakka Culture lectures and workshops. By connecting the connotation of the places, the City intends to carry forward the Hakka tea industry in Taiwan, the historical memory of the Hakka Yi-Min in the Yiwei campaign, the ocean Hakka spirit, as well as Hakka folk songs and Hakka poetry and other precious cultural assets, and to handle the Hakka tea culture season, Yi-Wei Hakka War Cultural Festival, Taoyuan Marine Hakka Culture Festival, Lai Bixia Music Memorial Concert and other activities for inheriting the rich and diverse Hakka Culture.
Hakka Tour Across Taoyuan
Planned ten classic tour routes and incorporated various activities held annually in affiliated venues to promote these routes, allowing people to understand the abundant Hakka culture in the Taoyuan area through active participation. The ten planned routes are outlined as follows:
- Tea Community Industry—Resonating SamGabSui Route: Centralized around the Taiwan Hakka Tea Culture Museum, exploring tea culture and local communities, including visits to notable groups like the bookstore, Beyond the Hill, to understand local industries and Hakka culture.
- Herbal Craft Cuisine—Touching DaBeiKen Route: Centralized around the Taiwan Hakka Tea Culture Museum, it integrates themes of herbs, crafts, and cuisine. This route connects with local groups like the DBK Young Studio to experience the uniqueness of the DaBeiKen area.
- Market Beliefs Literature—Walking through the Old Town Route: Centralized around the Chung-Chao-Cheng Literary Park, delving into the old city area to experience the fusion of markets, beliefs, and literature. Pass by Longyuan Temple, Longtan Lake, and YehLingManSheng Cultural Creation Base to understand local life and culture in Longtan.
- Xinwu Coastal Settlement’s Daily Routes: Centralized around the Yong’an Conch Cultural Park, it profoundly explores the daily life of coastal settlements. Includes visits to the Shihu Story Museum, Fanjiang Ancestral Hall, and Qiangu Culture Center to understand how coastal residents coexist with the sea.
- Xinwu Fisherfolk—Sustainable Routes with the Sea: Centralized around the Yong'an Conch Cultural Park, understanding the lifestyle and sustainable development of Xinwu fisherfolks. Visit the algal reef ecological environment classroom to investigate how locals coexist with the ocean.
- West Coast Bound-Street Area—Nanshing Hakka Village Route: Centralized around the Northern Taoyuan Hakka Cultural Hall, exploring the Hakka culture in Nanshing village. This includes experiences like Daxi Hakka village farming, Shen Nong Herbal School, and visiting community historical sites to understand Daxi’s different facets.
- Singing Mountain Songs, Hakka Village Bicycle Route: Centralized around the Northern Taoyuan Hakka Cultural Hall, enjoying Hakka mountain songs while experiencing the pleasure of cycling. This includes visiting Fushan Temple Pond Ecology Park, Xiaoli Yuyuan Temple, Qingcao Shidi, and Shih Mu Niang Niang Shrine to understand local humanities and architectural beauty deeply.
- Fugang Cycling Excursion: Centered around the Yangmei Taiwan Railways Fugang Station, people can travel by cycling. Tour traditional markets, railways, and stories of the Lord of Land, exploring the charm of Yangmei Fugang.
- The Urban Texture of Hakka Life Route: Centralized around the Zhongli Xinming Public Market, it profoundly understands the urban Hakka lifestyle in Zhongli. Visit Xinming Theater, Dongbin Barbershop, and Old Minsheng Market (Sweet Potato Market) to discover local Hakka people’s unique culture and life memories.
- Anpingzhen Village’s Irrigation and Martyrs Route: Centered around the Memorial Park Commemorating Resistance of the 1895 Japanese Invasion, following the Bazi Ditch and the Shimen Canal, experiencing the preciousness of water resources during the agricultural era. Pass multiple temples to understand the connection between Hakka's belief in the Lord of Land and daily life.
