According to the Cultural Heritage Preservation Act, Caota Sand Dunes was officially announced as Taoyuan City Geopark by Taoyuan City Government on June 11, 2020. In order to allow visitors to experience the captivating beauty of Caota Sand Dunes up close, the City Government constructed two scenic trails in Chaoyin Sea, Dayuan Dist. and Baishatun, Guanyin Dist. Caota Sand Dunes Geopark covers an area of about 284 hectares and is divided into three zones: core zone, restoration zone, and general zone.
Taoyuan City conducts topography management, maintenance, and monitoring of the Caota Sand Dunes Geopark. Since 2021, the authority has been guiding local communities to participate as citizen scientists in conducting simple measurements of the sand dune topography. The measurement results are then used to create maps. The community is then invited to discussions on the causes of topographic changes with the help of overlay analysis. This process aims to enrich the content for guided tours and public knowledge of sand dunes through science education. Collaborations have also been established with local groups, experts, scholars, and relevant organizations to create a platform for collective participation and promote community involvement. The authority has been participating in two geological network conferences annually to exchange operational strategies with other members of the Taiwan Geoparks Network since 2020. This collaboration aims to enhance the effectiveness of local revitalization efforts.
