- Taipei Grass Frog Restoration Plan in Gao Rong Wildlife Refuge
Taoyuan Gao Rong Wildlife Refuge covers an area of about 1.11 hectares, which is the smallest wildlife refuge in Taiwan. The second-class protected species “Taipei Grass Frog” is one of the species found in this Refuge. As the means to build an environment suitable for development and reproduction of Taipei Grass Frogs and furthermore ensure biodiversity, Taoyuan City continues to improve the environment in the habitat and removes the carnivorous fish in the pool in conjunction with patrols by the local community development association as well as advocacy to local residents in developing non-toxic agriculture and changes in farming habits. - Wildlife Shelter and Release Plan
There are a variety of wild animals in Taoyuan City. With the development of human residence and commerce space, the living space of wild animals is oppressed, and even more, wild animals are injured due to the carelessness of human beings. The City performs shelter and rescue of protected wildlife as well as the release following the recovery of wildlife to allow the wildlife return to nature and live and grow in succession. In the past, more than 10 wildlife species such as Black-shouldered Kite, Crested Goshawk, Crested Serpent Eagle, Besra, Collared Scops Owl, Mountain Scops Owl, Asian Barred Owlet, Swinhoe's Pheasant, Crested Myna, Taiwan Blue Magpie, pangolin, crab-eating mongooses, Yellow Pond Turtle, Chinese Box Turtle, etc., coming in dozens each are released every year.
Exotic Species Removal and Monitoring
- Mikania micrantha Control Plan
Taoyuan City handles the removal of Mikania micrantha every year and regularly holds inter-agency prevention meetings, meanwhile performing advocacy to the public in knowing the characteristics of Mikania micrantha and furthermore encouraging them to cooperate with the government policy concerning removal of Mikania micrantha to reduce the harm of Mikania micrantha to the ecology and environment. - African Sacred Ibis Removal
In cooperation with the central policy to monitor African Sacred Ibis. In the event a nesting site is found, reports to the Hsinchu Forestry Bureau, Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan will be made. The African Sacred Ibis will be hunted by the Bureau otherwise. - Prevention of Intrusion Red Imported Fire Ants
Taoyuan City regularly conducts large-scale Red Imported Fire Ants control and spraying in each district from March to June and August to November every year, and regularly conducts professional Red Imported Fire Ants prevention and control training to improve Red Imported Fire Ants control capacity. Meanwhile, volunteers and local residents are invited and assembled to for engagement in Red Imported Fire Ants prevention and control by promoting correct knowledge and self-control concepts, so as to reduce the harm and spread of the invasion of Red Imported Fire Ants.
Tree Protection
Taoyuan City formulated the Tree Protection and Autonomy Regulations in Taoyuan City in 2008 to protect the City's trees with preservation value, maintain the urban natural and cultural landscape and green resources, and improve the urban ecology. The City continue to handle specific tree surveys, tree pruning, health diagnosis, pest and disease damage prevention and control, environmental habitat improvement, cleaning and maintenance, and risk assessment, etc. In addition, the City also handle data preparations, tree sign productions and hanging and other work according to the survey results as ways to implement tree protection tasks.
